Hummer H2

The Hummer H2 could be a dying breed of high class, large framed, utility vehicles. Made by General Motors since 2003, it's a heavy duty and high class, full sized SUV class vehicle that can do 0 to 60 in 8.2 seconds and had an MSRP of over $54,000 in 2008. For 2009, 1300 units of the Black Chrome Limited Edition version of the truck were released and then General Motors sold the Hummer line as part of its reorganization. Nonetheless, it still is a popular SUV because if you have ever driven one, you will know it is more about fun, than fuel efficiency.

The primary problem for the Hummer H2 was gas mileage at 8.6 to 12 miles to the gallon, although it gets better than the Hummer H1, which is slightly longer and taller. Unless of course you change the airflow mapping to increase the air to fuel ration as I have done on H2. No matter it is still competitive with the popular Cadillac Escalade, despite the fuel price spikes and it is more for those that like adventure, with a sense of prestige.

Resale might not be the greatest-previous year's models were found to lose 40% of their value if they were 2 or 3 years old, because of the decline in large SUV popularity due to gas prices, but since prices have come back down, the power and traction make it a driving experience that not many other vehicles can give you, especially on the off-road. However resale is not usually an issue for a committed H2 owner, because most of them will keep it until either it dies or they do.

For those that want a rugged, massive truck frame for the off road vehicle experience, it doesn't get better than a Hummer H2. While it is popular as an on-road passenger vehicle that can hold six passengers very comfortably, including the driver, the four wheel drive traction and the 6.2 Liter V8 engine give it the strength and toughness to take on the most challenging courses off-road.

It shares the same platform as the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon, but the final frame assembly is a combination of 3 sections utilizing the 2500 series utility frame for the front, a modified 1500 series frame for the rear and a new, completely boxed mid-section, to support the 8,600 gross vehicle weight.

For those that are Hummer fans, the Hummer H2 is still popular, despite the 61% sales plunge that GM saw last year in the Hummer line. The 2009 Hummers also feature an H3T or Pickup truck model.

With the new 2009 Hummer H2 you will find that it comes standard with a power sunroof, and safety features like head curtain airbags for all three rows, panic brake assist, tire pressuring monitoring, electronic stability control with roll migration, OnStar and Blue Tooth wireless capability.

Sadly in June 2009 General Motors sold the Hummer line to a Chinese Industrial Machinery company. However the good news is that the Chinese Company, Tengzhong had said they plan to continue the Hummer brand's heritage, which is "synonymous with adventure, freedom and exhilaration". It could be that they have discovered the niche market that loves the Hummer H2-the people in search of these feelings, who are not necessarily worried about the price of fuel or the price of the Hummer H2.

So is the fact that the Hummer H2 will continue to be offered by a Chinese Machinery company really good news? The upside is that the price may come down on the Hummer, as is known to happen with may products where manufacturing has gone to China - but does that also mean that the H2 itself will also suffer from quality? Only time will tell.
